Young firefighters of VdF-NRW initiate a wildlife conservation project, focusing on indigenous bird species.

In the heart of Wuppertal, Germany, the youth fire brigade NRW has partnered with the NRW Foundation and the workshops of Haus Hall to launch an innovative birdhouse project. The initiative, aimed at protecting native bird species such as white storks, swifts, and house martins, is set to raise awareness of nature conservation among young firefighters.

The project, which was launched on February 19, 2025, offers three different DIY kits for birdhouses. These kits, developed by the workshops of the Haus Hall Foundation in Gescher, have generated a great deal of interest and commitment from the youth fire brigades towards nature conservation, evidenced by the high demand for the kits.

The Association of Fire Departments in NRW e.V., based at [email protected] and with a website at http://www.vdf-nrw.de, is the point of contact for inquiries about the project. Andreas Kirchharz, who can be reached at [email protected] and via telephone at 0202 317712-00, serves as the contact person.

Educational materials for the project are provided by the state office of the youth fire brigade NRW on the homepage www.jf.nrw. The project combines practical nature conservation with pedagogical elements, promoting team spirit and craftsmanship among young firefighters.

Sadly, due to the high demand, the DIY birdhouse kits for the species protection project are now sold out. However, the project continues to focus on native bird species in North Rhine-Westphalia and actively contributes to the preservation of bird populations.

The project's location remains Wuppertal, Germany, and it is a testament to the commitment of the youth fire brigades towards environmental conservation and community engagement.
