Vocational College Graduates from Düren Accepted into Police Dual Studies - 16 Young Individuals Set to Commence

In a grand ceremony held on July 2nd, 2025, at the Berufskolleg Kaufmännische Schulen in Kreis Düren, 16 students successfully completed their Fachabitur in the police program. These graduates have chosen a rewarding career path that promises daily opportunities to help people and take on responsibility.

The Fachoberschule Polizei program, designed for students with a Realschulabschluss, offers a targeted entry into the police career in North Rhine-Westphalia. The program combines academic and practical content, with students being taught subjects such as German, English, Mathematics, and Law and Political Science, while also completing comprehensive internships with the police.

One of the highlights of the graduation ceremony was a self-developed social media project on e-scooter prevention, realised in close cooperation with the Düren Police. The video of this project was shared statewide and generated enthusiasm at the event.

The Fachoberschule Polizei program is now offered at 15 locations in North Rhine-Westphalia, sometimes with multiple classes. The organization offering this program is the respective local police authorities cooperating with vocational schools, such as the Märkischer Kreis police authority in Iserlohn, Police Hagen, and partners in Bochum, Halver, Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis, Olpe, and Siegen.

During their internships, students accompany patrol teams on missions, support investigations in criminal and traffic divisions, and gain insights into administrative work. This hands-on experience provides a challenging but varied path with many opportunities for personal growth.

Leading Police Director Stefan Thomaßen of the Düren Police praised the graduates' commitment in his speech, advising them to always be guided by courage, respect, and solidarity in their future careers. The program plays an important role in attracting new talent to the police force, and the graduates will begin their dual studies at the Hochschule für Polizei und öffentliche Verwaltung (HSPV) on September 1, 2025.

The ceremony was made even more special with musical accompaniment from Police Commissioner Oliver Schmitt and Tim Schroif from the Police Presidency in Aachen. Their engaging performances added a memorable touch to the celebratory event. The Fachoberschule Polizei concept strengthens public service in the long term, ensuring the continued growth and success of the police force in North Rhine-Westphalia.
