Hey there,

Get ready to dive into the world of competitive exams as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is set to conduct the Civil Services Preliminary Examination on May 25, 2025. If you're one of the aspiring candidates, you can now access and download your e-admit card from the official website - upsconline.gov.in.

The exam will be divided into two shifts, with Paper 1 (General Studies) taking place from 9.30am to 11.30am, and Paper 2 (CSAT) starting at 2.30pm and running until 4.30pm. Don't forget to bring a printed copy of your e-admit card along with a valid photo ID as entry to the exam centre will be denied without it.

Note: The preliminary exam is simply a screening test, and the marks obtained won't be counted towards the final merit list. Only those who qualify will be eligible to appear for the Main examination, where scores play a significant role in determining the final rank.

Exam Pattern and Papers

The preliminary exam consists of two objective-type papers, each worth 200 marks, amounting to a total of 400 marks.

  • General Studies Paper I (GS Paper I) covers various topics such as history, geography, polity, economics, and current developments in science and technology.
  • General Studies Paper II (CSAT) includes comprehension, logical reasoning, and analytical ability.

Both papers will be presented in Hindi and English, and each paper will last for two hours. The CSAT paper is qualifying in nature, requiring candidates to score a minimum of 33%.

Negative Marking

Remember, incorrect answers will attract negative marking. For each wrong answer, one-third of the total marks allotted to the question will be deducted. Be careful not to mark more than one option, as this will be treated as an incorrect answer. No marks will be deducted for questions left unanswered.
