Unveiling the FCBA Tutoring Program: A Flushing-Based Initiative Committed to Delivering Superior Teaching to Every Student

The FCBA Tutoring Program, a student-led community organization based in Flushing, New York, is making a significant impact on the local community. Operating within the New York Tutoring Center, the program is an initiative of the Flushing Business Chinese Association (FBCA) and is dedicated to providing academic assistance to students in the area.

At the heart of this program is Emily Lin '26, a junior at Bronx Science and the CEO of the FCBA Tutoring Program. She stated that the program aims to provide an option to families who may not have the financial stability to afford expensive tutoring services.

The program offers tutoring services for various subjects, including English for second language learners, NYS standardized exams, the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT), and STEM subjects like Chemistry and Algebra 1. Middle schoolers are also taught for the SHSAT, with a focus on math and verbal skills needed for entry into New York City's specialized high schools.

The FCBA Tutoring Program is open to students from Pre-K to 12th Grade, regardless of their ethnicity, financial status, or age. The program operates on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to academic support, the program also offers opportunities for academically driven high school students to share their knowledge and experience by tutoring and volunteering. This not only benefits the students receiving tutoring but also helps the volunteers develop partnership and presentation skills, as stated by Min Liu, an ESL tutor and a current ninth grader at Bayside High School.

The ESL program, a significant service offered, consists of two sections: one for teaching sentence structure and another for independent reading with a designated tutor. The program also offers preparatory courses, including Homework Help, where students work with designated tutors to solve homework questions.

The FCBA Tutoring Program has collaborated with the New York Police Department, hosting seminars on transportation safety, celebrations about the empowerment of women, and forging bonds between different cultures. The program also holds high school, college, and career showcases and expos, as well as collaborating with other organizations to host various events.

The FCBA Tutoring Program is a testament to the power of community engagement and the positive impact that student-led initiatives can have on the lives of others. Whether you're a student seeking academic help or a volunteer looking to give back, the FCBA Tutoring Program is a valuable resource within the Flushing community.

The FCBA Tutoring Program, through collaboration with the New York Police Department and other organizations, organizes events that foster cross-cultural understanding and celebrate women's empowerment. Beyond academic assistance, the program enables academically inclined high school students to hone their partnership and presentation skills by serving as tutors and volunteers. Moreover, the ESL program within the FCBA Tutoring Program offers learning opportunities focused on sentence structure, independent reading, and preparatory courses like Homework Help, promoting personal growth and education-and-self-development for participants from diverse backgrounds.
