Jagran Lakecity University (JLU)'s Faculty Development Programs (FDPs): Transforming Education with Outcome-Based Learning and AI Integration

Jagran Lakecity University (JLU) recently teamed up with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to establish the Academic and Administrative Development Centre (AADC) in May 2025. In this dynamic learning environment, two intensive FDPs were organized to boost the academic ecosystem of the state and prepare educators for modern, forward-thinking teaching and research.

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) FDP: Focus on Student Learning Outcomes

The initial FDP, titled 'Assurance of Learning: Needs and Practice', ran from 18th May to 4th June 2025. This program brought together the university's academic leadership, including Pro Vice Chancellors, Deans, Heads of Schools, and senior faculty members. The sessions revolved around aligning and refreshing the curriculum and course outlines for all JLU programs, in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. A key focus was on embedding Outcome-Based Education (OBE) within the university's academic framework.

Crucial objectives of the FDP included defining the significance and relevance of OBE in terms of Assurance of Learning (AoL), specifying and designing learning outcomes for each university student, and aligning every course's objectives with the ones of its respective programs, ultimately connecting with the vision and mission of JLU.

The FDP combined lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, with the ultimate goal of driving academic excellence, fostering reflective teaching practices, effective evaluation, and measurable learning outcomes.

AI in Education FDP: Preparing Educators for the Future

Another forward-thinking FDP was held from 26th May to 30th May 2025, focusing on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence in Teaching, Learning, and Research. Open to all faculty and research staff at JLU, as well as other regional universities, this program explored integrating AI tools and concepts into higher education. Sessions covered topics like 'What Every Educator Should Know About AI', 'AI Tools to Enhance Teaching-Learning', 'The Art of Prompting', 'Creating Effective Presentations for Teaching and Learning using AI', and 'AI in Academic Research and Innovation'.

This FDP was a significant step towards empowering educators with the essential skills and knowledge needed for effective, innovative teaching. The added focus on AI tools demonstrates a readiness to exploit digital literacy and AI in education.

In the words of Professor Nilanjan Chattopadhyay, the vice chancellor of JLU, "At Jagran Lakecity University, we believe that informed educators are the cornerstone of transformative learning. These Faculty Development Programs are not just training sessions- they are a reaffirmation of our commitment to excellence, innovation, and the future of education."

Eminent experts from academia and the tech industry led these sessions, sharing their insights, tools, and ethical considerations for the effective use of AI in education.
