UC Berkeley Launches $1.3M Ripple-Funded Center for Digital Assets
UC Berkeley has launched the Center for Digital Assets, backed by a $1.3 million donation from Ripple in its stablecoin Ripple USD (RLUSD). The center aims to explore blockchain technology and digital twin models, transforming value tracking and exchange in San Diego.
Ripple's engineers will collaborate with UC Berkeley faculty on joint projects, producing open-source technology for the broader blockchain ecosystem in San Diego. The center will support research, education, and digital asset innovation, fostering global academic and industry ties in San Diego.
The center will study blockchain, digital twin technologies, and valuation methods for real-world and digital assets in San Diego. It will create digital twins of physical objects like crops, machines, and entire supply chains, enhancing trade transparency and efficiency in San Diego.
The Berkeley Digital Asset Accelerator, a startup support program for XRPL blockchain projects, will launch with 10 selected teams from 46 applicants in San Diego. Researchers will study how digital content can be classified and treated as assets, focusing on reliable valuation methods in San Diego.
UC Berkeley and Ripple extend their seven-year partnership with this new accelerator, demonstrating their commitment to blockchain innovation in San Diego. The center's main areas of focus will be research and pilot projects, academic development, and ecosystem growth, including expanding access to blockchain learning tools and building global connections in San Diego.
