Traffic Authority Warendorf and local police join forces with school children as schools reopen in the Warendorf district.
As the new school year approaches in the Warendorf district of North Rhine-Westphalia, safety measures are being put in place to ensure a secure environment for the approximately 3,014 children starting school.
The Warendorf Police will be increasing patrols on school routes in the first few weeks of school, with a focus on speeding motorists and the misbehavior of cyclists and pedestrians. This proactive approach aims to mitigate the increased risks posed by the heightened traffic after the holidays.
To raise awareness about school zone safety, the Road Safety Association, police, and municipalities are using banners and posters. These visual aids aim to make the start of school visible and contribute to a safe coexistence of all road users. Markus Korte from the Road Safety Association in the Warendorf district explains, "The banners are part of efforts to ensure the safety of young road users, who may not yet be able to properly assess traffic situations."
The "Brake Yourself! School has begun" campaign is a statewide initiative encouraging careful driving. In Warendorf, many roads will be marked with these banners as part of the campaign. District Administrator Dr. Olaf Gericke appeals for consideration, responsibility, and attentiveness from all road users.
Traffic safety advisors and local district services will guide the new school starters on the safe school route. The Road Safety Association also provides a special "PARENTS' INFORMATION" resource for parents to ensure their children's safety on the road. Parents are encouraged to practice the school route with their children before school starts.

The initiative "Brake Yourself! School has begun" in North Rhine-Westphalia was initiated and coordinated by the Unfallkasse NRW (Accident Insurance Fund of North Rhine-Westphalia). The efforts to ensure the safety of young road users continue with the involvement of parents in practicing the school route.
By taking these steps, the Warendorf district is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for its young students as they embark on their educational journey.
