Theatre strategy now centrally involves teaming up with upcoming theatre directors as key components
The Mossovet Theatre in Moscow, a renowned institution in the Russian theatrical scene, is set to embark on an exciting new venture with the launch of its Creative Lab for Children. This specialized programme, focusing on engaging children in theatrical arts, has a proven track record of developing young directors and nurturing a new theatre audience.
The upcoming project, a collaboration between MTS and leading theaters, is set to serve as a platform for young directors, students, and graduates of theatre universities to present their ideas. The initiative is expected to expand its geography to include participants from all over Russia, LNR, DNR, and Crimea.
A jury, consisting of esteemed industry professionals, will select at least four outstanding projects. The jury includes Yevgeny Marchelli, the artistic director of the Mossovet Theatre, People's Artists of Russia Olga Ostroumova and Yevgeny Steblov, Honored Artist of Russia Olga Kabo, actress Anna Mikhailovskaya, Natalia Lysenko, advisor to the President of the MTS ecosystem for social and cultural projects, and Igor Khomskiy, the general producer of the "First Plan" festival, among others.
The finalists will be announced on September 10, and by the end of the month, excerpts from their works will be shown to the jury. The winner, chosen from these finalists, will be honored and given the opportunity to create a full-length play that will join the main repertoire of the Mossovet Theatre.
Moreover, the selected authors will have the opportunity to stage their own productions with the participation of Mossovet Theatre actors. This is a unique chance for young talent to gain invaluable experience and exposure in the professional theatrical world.
The Mossovet Theatre's Creative Lab for Children is not new to such initiatives. Previous laboratories have been based on plays about Moscow and Leonid Leonov's 'Invasion'. This innovative educational approach integrates creative workshops, performances, and collaborative projects that bridge professional theatre experience with young participants’ creativity.
By cultivating future theatre professionals and audiences through immersive, hands-on theatrical education tailored to children, the Mossovet Theatre's Creative Lab for Children contributes significantly to the cultural scene, fostering a deeper appreciation for theatre and encouraging lifelong interest and support for the art form.
Education and self-development opportunities are extended to young directors, students, and graduates through the Mossovet Theatre's Creative Lab for Children's new collaboration. This initiative encourages children to develop their creative skills in theatrical arts by presenting their ideas to a jury.
