School project "Schoolmensa" funded with EUR 1.2 million
Project leader Stefan Gerhardt has announced an innovative initiative in Lower Saxony, Germany, aimed at combining nutrition, food culture, sustainability, and community within school catering. This project, known as the Learning Space Cafeteria model, is funded by the state with around 1.2 million euros.
The goal of the Learning Space Cafeteria project is to transform cafeterias into integrative learning and living spaces in selected model schools. The Association of German School and Kindergarten Caterers (VDSKC) is spearheading this project, aiming to connect school catering with lesson content in the upgraded cafeterias.
The VDSKC is currently seeking four model schools for this project. Interested schools can apply until September 8, 2025. The project will run until February 2027.
The upgraded cafeterias will not only serve as spaces for nourishment but also as integrative spaces for learning. They are intended to promote a focus on regional, seasonal, and sustainable nutrition. The objective is to encourage students, teachers, and parents to engage actively in the operations of these cafeterias.
The Learning Space Cafeteria model project also sees school catering as an integrative part of modern, holistic education. Stefan Gerhardt believes that this project can contribute significantly to the educational experience of students by fostering a deeper understanding of nutrition, food culture, and sustainability.
For those seeking detailed information about this project, including application requirements, it is recommended to check official Lower Saxony government or Ministry of Science and Culture websites, visit relevant university or educational institution portals in Lower Saxony, or review announcements or calls for proposals from funding agencies or cultural/educational departments in Lower Saxony.
