The historic 15th-century Drapers' Bastion in Brașov is set to undergo a significant transformation, thanks to a restoration project funded by the European Union. The project, valued at nearly EUR 2.5 million, will receive a non-reimbursable grant of approximately EUR 2 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) [1].

The restoration aims to turn the Drapers' Bastion into an interactive museum, blending educational, exhibition, and entertainment functions. This will not only preserve a significant urban landmark but also serve as an important cultural and educational space for pupils, students, and visitors [1].

The project, with a 33-month implementation timeline, is expected to boost tourism by offering a more attractive and modernized cultural experience, enhancing Brașov's appeal as a destination. Additionally, it will contribute to the local economic revitalization, particularly benefiting the construction sector during the restoration phase and fostering broader urban regeneration efforts [1].

The Drapers' Bastion rehabilitation project is unique in Brașov, as the municipality does not have a similar cultural infrastructure. The project includes structural and architectural work, such as consolidation of various elements, restoration of historical exteriors, and preservation of interior surfaces [1].

Equipment will be purchased to improve energy efficiency and accessibility for visitors. The project also involves the restoration of archaeological vestiges, including a cistern and a 16th-century building. The revision of the guard walkway on the ground and third floors is part of the project. New door carpentry will be installed, and the visiting space will be arranged and equipped with various installations and artistic fittings [1].

The Drapers' Bastion, built between 1450-1455, has undergone previous alterations and rehabilitation in 1521-1522, 1961-1962, and 2008. However, significant damage has occurred since the last intervention, particularly to the metal pavilion [1].

Once completed, the Drapers' Bastion will be integrated into the tourist circuit, serving as an educational space for pupils, students, and more. The project is poised to be a catalyst for both cultural enrichment and economic growth in Brașov through enhanced tourism infrastructure and educational outreach [1][4].
