Red Panda Jinjin is en route
Red Panda Jinjin to Be Transferred to Another Zoo
Jinjin, the popular red panda residing at a zoo, is set to embark on a new journey. The zoo has announced that Jinjin will soon be moved to another facility as part of the EAZA Ex-situ Programme (EEP) for red pandas.
The young female red panda, who is now 14 months old, no longer requires her mother's care. In nature, red pandas leave their mother and begin to search for their own territory at around this age.
The move is intended to allow Jinjin to potentially care for offspring herself in the future. The EAZA Ex-situ Programme (EEP) aims to build a genetically diverse reserve population of red pandas under human care. This transfer is a part of the natural dispersal behavior that the zoo imitates within the EAZA Ex-situ Programme (EEP).
Interestingly, Jinjin's mother, Uma, has given birth to a new offspring in July. The new offspring is currently residing in its birth den and is not yet visible to zoo visitors.
The transfer of Jinjin is not the only instance where the zoo imitates this natural behavior. The zoo often transfers offspring within the EAZA Ex-situ Programme (EEP) to other zoos to ensure the survival and genetic diversity of red pandas in captivity.
Unfortunately, the search results do not provide information about the name of the zoo to which Jinjin will soon be transferred. Regardless, the zoo staff and Jinjin's fans are excited about this new chapter in Jinjin's life.
Stay tuned for more updates on Jinjin's journey!
