Pope Leo XIV Urges Sharing Migrants' Stories of Faith, Villanova Launches Immigration Institute

Pope Leo recently urged the sharing of migrants' and refugees' stories of faith and hope to inspire others and tackle their challenges. Sister Norma Pimentel, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, praised migrants as 'missionaries of hope' who sanctify communities. She called for kindness, compassion, and courage in responding to migrants and refugees in a world marked by fear and division.

Villanova University has launched the Mother Cabrini Institute on Immigration to promote programs of scholarship, advocacy, and service for migrants. The institute is led by Michele R. Pistone, who was inspired by Pope Francis to work with migrants and refugees. It brings together scholars, activists, and policymakers specializing in migration, refugee rights, and social justice to address challenges affecting over 100 million people worldwide due to migration and displacement.

Pope Leo discussed the 'globalization of powerlessness' and the need to overcome feelings of helplessness. He noted that migrants and refugees often maintain their strength and resilience while seeking a better future despite obstacles. Sister Pimentel invited U.S. President Donald Trump and political leaders to meet migrants and refugees to understand their experiences and needs. She emphasized that no government can stop individuals from living out their faith and caring for refugee brothers and sisters.

Pope Leo's encouragement to share migrants' and refugees' stories of faith and hope highlights their resilience and potential to inspire others. The launch of the Mother Cabrini Institute on Immigration at Villanova University signals a commitment to promoting programs of scholarship, advocacy, and service for migrants.
