The upcoming governance of Cebu has Pamela Baricuatro at the helm, armed with the support of medical professionals and entrepreneurs to strengthen its healthcare system and economy for her constituents.
As promised during her campaign, Baricuatro intends to focus on the Sugboanons and develop the Information Technology (IT) & Business Process Management (BPM) sector.
Last Friday, June 13, Baricuatro expressed concern over the doctor and nurse shortage at Pinamungajan District Hospital during her visit. She was grateful for the continuous work of healthcare staff, despite the hospital's critical condition due to insufficient resources.
The following day, on Saturday, Baricuatro met with doctors in a meeting at the Cebu Cancer Coalition, discussing palliative care and the slow process in resuming critical services. The governor-elect expressed her gratitude for the "wisdom, heart, and collaboration" from vital doctors crucial for improving the healthcare system for cancer patients in need of specialist doctors.
"It's an honor and privilege to join medical professionals who genuinely serve Cebuanos fighting cancer," Baricuatro stated.
Additionally, Baricuatro has acknowledged the immense potential and importance of the maritime sector to Cebu's economy, advocating for collaborative, inclusive, and innovative growth to sustain the sector's economy.
She has also met with representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for discussions focusing on infrastructural projects aimed at improving mobility, logistics, and rural development in Cebu.
"These initiatives reflect JICA's enduring commitment to supporting Cebu's progress through innovation, resilience, and strategic planning," Baricuatro said.
Furthermore, Baricuatro desires to transform Cebu into a digital excellence hub and has reached out to the Cebu ICT-BPM Organization (CIB.O) for training and job opportunities for locals in the IT-BPM sector.
