Podcasts Boom in Australia: 40% of Young Men Tune In Daily
Podcasts have solidified their place in Australian media, with over 40% of young men aged 15-34 tuning in daily. The latest figures reveal a 7% increase in regular listeners, reaching 2.8 million nationwide.
The surge in podcast consumption is evident across various platforms. YouTube's usage for podcasts jumped from 30% to 44%, while Spotify maintained its dominance at 58%. However, Apple Podcasts saw a decline to 20%.
Blue-collar workers have also embraced podcasts, with a 7% increase in those listening to 5-9 episodes weekly. Moreover, 69% of 25-34-year-olds now consume podcasts monthly, reflecting an 8% increase within this demographic.
Engagement levels remain high, with 77% of listeners completing episodes 'always or most of the time'. Comedy and news/current affairs tie at 29% as the most popular genres, followed by crime at 28% and health/wellbeing at 27%.
Australia's podcast monthly listenership has reached 9.6 million people aged 15 and older, accounting for 47% of the population. As podcast advertising becomes more automated, it will be interesting to see which brands capitalize on this growing audience in 2025.
