In the heart of Astana, at Mass Library No. 12, an ecological hour event was held, dedicated to raising awareness about the national environmental campaign "Taza Qazaqstan" (Clean Kazakhstan) and the importance of preserving rare and endangered plants listed in the Red Book.
The event, organised as part of the larger "Taza Qazaqstan" initiative, aimed to promote environmental safety and sustainable development among the younger generation. Aigerm Almaganbetova, the library's director, emphasised the significance of educating children about rare plants and their importance in biodiversity conservation.
The event took place among the bookshelves in the reading room, with children and teenagers introduced to the goals and activities of the "Taza Qazaqstan" campaign. Educational presentations or discussions about environmental issues in Kazakhstan followed, along with information about rare and endangered plants listed in the Red Book.
Interactive activities were designed to foster environmental responsibility, with the children taught not to throw trash anywhere, to sort waste, and how to help animals. They also participated in an interactive session where they solved ecological riddles and learned about animals through puzzles.
A short film about the impact of small daily actions on the ecological state was shown, emphasising the importance of treating nature carefully. The event also featured a book exhibition called "I Know the World", showcasing literature about rare animals and plants.
Unfortunately, there was no quick tour about Kazakhstan's fauna, and the event did not repeat the interactive session or the book exhibition from the previous day. However, after the lessons, children were encouraged to visit the library to read more about rare plants.
The library, which welcomes adults and teenagers, continues to play a vital role in fostering environmental awareness, with open doors to everyone. The ecological hour at Mass Library No. 12 serves as a testament to the library's commitment to promoting responsible environmental stewardship and biodiversity conservation.
