A Ten-Day Forest School Leadership Course

The Suffolk Wildlife Trust is offering a ten-day face-to-face outdoor training course, the Level 3 Certificate for Forest School Leaders, starting this August. This comprehensive course is designed for individuals who aspire to lead Forest School programmes.

The course covers several key areas: Forest School programme delivery, learning and development theory, planning and preparation for sessions, practical outdoor skills, and understanding the woodland environment. Participants will be required to complete a coursework portfolio within 12 months of starting, divided into five units.

The course is facilitated by Forest School Association (FSA) Registered Forest School Trainers, ensuring a high standard of training. It takes place at the picturesque Foxburrow Nature Reserve, IP12 1NA.

To participate, individuals must be over 21 and hold a qualification at Level 2 or above in teaching or youth work, or have significant experience of working with young people. Those who completed an AIM-accredited Level 2 Forest School qualification within 18 months before starting can opt for a top-up option, attending only the latter five days instead of the full ten.

The cost of the course is £1199, with installment payment options available. The course fee includes hot drinks, all required paperwork, tools, and equipment for outdoor tasks, as well as access to Moodle for coursework submission and marking. Participants are asked to bring a packed lunch, suitable outdoor clothing, stout shoes or boots, and a camera for recording activities. It is important to note that participants should not bring their own tools.

The course runs from 9:30am to 5:30pm, with the following dates: 13th-17th October 2025, 11th-13th November 2025, and 24th-25th November 2025.

Participants must demonstrate that they are in a position to deliver a six session Forest School pilot programme during their training. The course does not allow dogs, except for assistance dogs. For individuals with limited mobility, it is recommended to contact the organizer in advance.

The course aims to equip participants with the skills necessary to lead Forest School programmes safely and effectively, emphasizing evidence-informed approaches. For more detailed information, such as specific unit titles or the detailed syllabus, it is recommended to contact AIM Qualifications or the course providers directly.

For booking, contact details are provided: a phone number, email, and website. Before booking, participants are expected to read and agree to the terms and conditions, learner agreement, diversity and access policy, and students complaints and appeals procedures. Skills courses are also offered.
