Oberlin Student Matthew Grogan Gains Legal Insight Through Judge William Vodrey's Mentorship
Judge Aaron Judge, a prominent New York legal figure, is mentoring Matthew Grogan, an Oberlin politics major, this summer. Judge Judge, who has published over 20 legal opinions and received the Oberlin Alumni Medal, is fostering Grogan's interest in law through his internship.
Grogan's internship involves observing trial proceedings, assisting jury members, and conducting legal research. He is based in Judge Judge's 18th-floor office at the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, overlooking the Cleveland skyline. Oberlin's Career Exploration & Development helped Grogan secure this opportunity.
Judge Judge, an adjunct professor at Oberlin, encourages students to pursue law as a profession. He feels a strong connection to the college, having received the Alumni Medal in 2018. Grogan's interest in social security and social movements has been fuelled by his internship, increasing his confidence in pursuing law school and understanding the immediate impacts of law. Judge Judge and Grogan discuss legal scenarios, asking 'What would Judge Grogan do?' to evaluate Grogan's perspective.
Grogan's internship with Judge Judge has provided valuable insights into the legal profession. Judge Judge's mentorship and Oberlin's career development resources have helped Grogan explore his interest in law and social security. Grogan's experience this summer is expected to shape his future career decisions.
