Nxera plans to educate and employ over 500 individuals in AI-centric data center positions
Singtel's data centre arm, Nxera, is making significant strides in supporting Singapore's artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions. The company has announced an initiative to train and hire more than 500 people for data centre and AI-related roles.
This initiative targets a wide range of talents, including graduates, mid-career professionals, and especially entry-level candidates, with about 40% of these jobs being entry-level—a notable approach amid global trends of lower junior hiring due to AI automation.
Training and Recruitment Scale
Over 500 positions are set to be filled in the near future for data centre and AI roles in Singapore. This ambitious recruitment drive aims to address the ongoing talent crunch in the region, as many countries in Asia are experiencing a huge buildout of data centres in their cities.
Competency-Based Training
The program offers stackable micro-credentials, enabling learners to progressively build expertise relevant to these roles. This competency-based approach ensures that trainees acquire the necessary skills to excel in their chosen careers.
Educational Partnerships
Nxera collaborates with local institutions such as the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Temasek Polytechnic (TP), Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) to co-develop AI and data centre-related courses. This collaboration offers multiple pathways, including work-study programs for students, particularly from polytechnics and ITE.
Industry Mentoring
The initiative includes mentoring from industry professionals to help trainees gain practical, workplace-relevant skills. This hands-on approach ensures that trainees are well-prepared for the challenges they may face in their future careers.
Events and Awareness
Nxera organized an AI Data Centre Career Day during the SkillsFuture Festival 2025, attracting about 1,000 tertiary students. The event emphasized sustainable AI data centre careers and reinforced national goals of lifelong learning, career agility, and workforce resilience.
Government Support
Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information and Health, Tan Kiat How, highlighted government backing for polytechnic and ITE graduates through programs like the TechSkills Accelerator, which has secured over 1,000 tech jobs since 2022. This support underscores the positive job outlook in tech fields.
Sustainable AI Data Centre Academy
Nxera created a Sustainable AI Data Centre Academy in collaboration with these institutes of higher learning to address the talent gap, particularly in new areas such as sustainability and high-density AI environments.
In addition to its recruitment and training initiatives, Nxera is committed to upskilling all of its employees in AI operations and sustainability through co-curated data centre courses with the aforementioned institutions. Nxera also supports customers in achieving their decarbonisation goals, and its upcoming data centre, DC Tuas, is set to be one of the largest liquid-cooled AI data centres in Asia with high power and water efficiency.
Nxera's initiatives are a testament to the company's dedication to nurturing local talent for Singapore’s growing demand in AI and digital infrastructure, and its commitment to sustainable practices. The company is accelerating its expansion plans with the development of several AI data centres in the Asia region.
