New Curriculum Modules Incorporating Space Exploration and Military Operations, Featuring Captain Shubhanshu Shukla and Operation Sindoor, Will Be Presented by NCERT
India is set to introduce new curriculum modules that will teach students about national strength, space exploration, defense, diplomacy, and sustainability. Developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), these modules are designed to make education more contextual, contemporary, and rooted in national identity.
The modules, which will span eight to ten pages, will be incorporated into school syllabi for Classes 3 to 12. Two key modules are being prepared: one for Classes 3 to 8 and another for Classes 9 to 12.
Key Learning Areas
National Strength and Defense
The first module will feature Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, as a case study. This will serve to explain India’s military preparedness, coordinated inter-ministerial action, and the role of armed forces in national security. The aim is to foster understanding of how defense mechanisms and diplomacy protect the country.
Space Exploration
Students will learn about India’s landmark space missions such as Chandrayaan, Aditya L1, and the participation of Indian Air Force pilot Shubhanshu Shukla in the International Space Station mission Axiom Mission 4. These stories are intended to inspire interest in aerospace careers and scientific curiosity.
Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility
The curriculum will incorporate Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), an important national climate initiative by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. This teaches students about integrating sustainability into national development and the importance of environmental stewardship.
Diplomacy and National Integration
The modules will highlight the coordination between various ministries and the strategic diplomatic efforts contributing to national security. There will also be a historical module on the trauma and resilience of the Partition, fostering a deeper understanding of India’s independence journey and unity.
