NEET UG 2025 First Round of Counselling Suspension - Insights from the Committee's Statement

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced a temporary hold on the Choice Filling & Choice Locking for Round-1 of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate Counselling 2025. The notice regarding this hold can be found on the official MCC website (mcc.nic.in).

Initially, candidates were allowed to submit and lock their choices by August 4, 2025. However, due to certain unspecified reasons, the MCC has decided to put the process on hold. The exact reasons for this suspension were not specified in the notice.

The hold was reportedly to accommodate additional considerations such as the extension for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) to obtain necessary certificates and to verify the accuracy of seat vacancies in the MCC seat matrix.

The revised schedule for Round 1 counselling has been announced, with the choice locking window reopening from 8 PM on August 6 until 8 AM on August 7, 2025. Candidates must finalize and lock their choices in this window, after which seat processing and allotment will proceed.

It is essential for candidates to check the MCC official website regularly for further updates and ensure timely locking of their choices within the revised timeframe to secure allotment.

Additional updates involve verifying NRI status conversions and seat vacancy details as part of the overall counselling process. Candidates who were converted to NRI status were required to submit scanned documents via email to [email protected] by August 3, 2025.

The MCC has approved the conversion of 188 candidates from Indian to NRI status for the NEET UG 2025 counselling process.

The participating institutions under the All India Quota (AIQ) for NEET UG Counselling 2025 include central universities, deemed universities, AIIMS, and BSc nursing colleges.

According to data from the National Medical Commission (NMC), several MBBS seats continue to remain vacant. In 2022-23, 4,146 UG seats (excluding AIIMS and JIPMER) remained vacant. However, there has been a decrease in the number of vacant MBBS seats from 2022-23 to 2024-25, with 2,849 seats remaining vacant.

It is worth noting that the total number of MBBS seats has increased from 83,275 in 2020-21 to 1,15,900 in 2024-25. This increase in MBBS seats is a positive development that could potentially reduce the number of vacant seats in the coming years.

The information about the number of vacant MBBS seats was presented in the Lok Sabha by Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, on August 1, 2025.

Candidates are advised to stay updated with the latest developments on the MCC website to ensure a smooth counselling process.

During the temporary hold on the Choice Filling & Choice Locking for Round-1 of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate Counselling 2025, candidates might find general news related to education-and-self-development about the extension for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) to obtain necessary certificates and the verification of seat vacancies in the MCC seat matrix. After the revised schedule was announced, candidates must check the MCC official website regularly for updates and ensure timely locking of their choices within the revised timeframe to secure allotment, which is also a part of general news for self-development and the broader education sector.
