Leveraging Past Knowledge: Utilizing Previous Experience for your Senior Thesis Success

Every department's curriculum at university is designed to prepare students for the culmination of their college careers - the Senior Thesis. This monumental project, often characterized as the capstone of undergraduate studies, an unprecedented challenge, and the longest paper written, can seem daunting. However, reflecting on past projects can make it less intimidating.

One author, currently working on a Senior Thesis, found that their past experiences were valuable in all stages of their current project. With a focus on state-to-state differences in the provision of maternal health care for pregnant and postpartum women in U.S. state prisons, the author's thesis is a culmination of previous projects and learning experiences.

The author's past academic work, particularly Junior Papers (JPs), have significantly aided in the Senior Thesis project. JPs serve as earlier, smaller-scale research projects that allow students to practice formulating research questions, conducting literature reviews, designing methodologies, and organizing findings - key components directly transferable to the more extensive Senior Thesis.

Data collection is one area where past experiences shine.
