Liquid's Fibre TechCelerate Initiative Boosts Small-Scale Businesses and Educational Institutions in South Africa's Eastern Cape Regions
Liquid Intelligent Technologies Empowers Eastern Cape Businesses with Fibre TechCelerate Programme
Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a business of Cassava Technologies, has successfully completed the 2024 edition of its Fibre TechCelerate Programme in South Africa. The initiative, aimed at empowering small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs), particularly in the Eastern Cape, has proven to be a significant step towards fostering inclusive economic growth and promoting digital inclusion in the region.
The Fibre TechCelerate Programme is a comprehensive skills development and business support initiative. It offers structured modules focusing on business management, fibre optics installation, occupational health and safety, digital skills, and mentorship. These modules are designed to prepare SMMEs to thrive in South Africa’s digital economy.
The programme targets youth and women, as demonstrated by the certification of 20 SMMEs alongside 10 female ICT students from Walter Sisulu University in its 2024 cohort. Through partnerships with educational institutions and the provincial government, the Fibre TechCelerate Programme acts as a catalyst for economic transformation by supporting local Black-owned micro and small businesses and equipping them with the tools and training needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.
The first cohort of 30 participants (20 SMMEs and 10 female ICT students from Walter Sisulu University) received their certifications at a graduation ceremony in East London. The event marked the honoring of the achievements of the first Fibre TechCelerate graduates.
Dr Andile Ngcaba, Patron of Cortex Hub, expressed pride in the programme's success and looked forward to working closely with Liquid South Africa, the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, and other contributors in supporting the 2025 cohort. The partnership between Liquid South Africa and the Eastern Cape Provincial Government on the Fibre TechCelerate Programme highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in accelerating the country's digital transformation.
Ziaad Suleman, CEO of Cassava Technologies in South Africa and Botswana, oversees the Liquid Fibre TechCelerate Programme. The programme is structured around these modules and is committed to ensuring a digitally connected future that leaves no African behind. Liquid Intelligent Technologies and Cassava Technologies are global technology leaders of African heritage.
The current fibre network installation in the Eastern Cape has created over 7,000 permanent and temporary jobs. The Fibre TechCelerate Programme equips SMMEs with the technical, business, and digital skills necessary to contribute to various projects, including the Eastern Cape Provincial Government's fibre and broadband rollout project.
The Liquid Fibre TechCelerate Programme is a catalyst for digital transformation in the Eastern Cape and beyond. It is designed to transform local businesses, particularly focusing on youth and women. Twenty-five new SMMEs were welcomed into the 2025 programme at the same event. Liquid's involvement through the Fibre TechCelerate Programme reflects its commitment to providing best-in-class connectivity and digital solutions to local enterprises, government, and individuals in the Eastern Cape.
The programme aims to prepare SMMEs for success in South Africa's digital economy and foster inclusive economic growth. It is a significant step towards ensuring that local enterprises can actively contribute to large infrastructure projects such as the Eastern Cape Provincial Government’s fibre and broadband rollout. The Fibre TechCelerate Programme is supported by implementation partner Cortex Hub.
