Leader in Technical Operations

Swing Left, a non-profit organization focused on empowering volunteers and small-dollar donors to have a greater impact in elections, is seeking a Head of Technology. This is a senior leadership role based in the United States, offering a remote work setup.

Role and Responsibilities

The Head of Technology will lead the technology strategy, manage engineering practices, and ensure system maintainability. The role involves overseeing various technical domains, including frontend (React / Next.js), backend (Node.js / Express / Flask / Docker), data (Snowflake, Fivetran/Airbyte, dbt, Dagster, Lightdash), infrastructure (Vercel, Firebase, GCP, Airtable), and miscellaneous tools (Segment, Supabase, early-stage beta tools).

The successful candidate will work closely with a Managing Director and play a key role in organizational strategy, culture, and development. They will be expected to dream up moonshot ideas that can transform how volunteers and small-dollar donors participate in elections.

The role also includes managing and growing a team of engineers, analysts, and product managers. Some travel is expected for occasional in-person meetings.

Qualifications

Candidates should have significant senior or staff-level engineering experience or equivalent technical leadership roles. They must demonstrate a ability to manage and develop teams, and align with Swing Left’s mission and culture.

The ideal candidate should be mission-driven, AI-aware, and able to work independently and collaborate effectively in a virtual workplace. They should also have a commitment to equity and belonging.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $160,000 - $170,000/year. Benefits include 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees (50% for dependents), health and dependent care FSA accounts, employer-paid life and disability insurance, retirement plans, professional development stipends, remote work technology stipends, unlimited time off, and flexible leave policies. The organization observes about 25 business days off annually, including federal holidays.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with interviews planned to begin in July and a September start date in mind. The priority deadline to apply is July 7, but applications will be accepted until the posting is closed.

Swing Left is an equal-opportunity employer and seeks applications from all qualified candidates who are eligible to work in the United States. However, they are not able to sponsor visas at this time.
