Job Expo 2025: Opportunities Galore for Prospective Job Seekers

On Thursday, 6th February, the Careers Team at Notre Dame hosted their annual Careers Fair, with approximately 40 employers in attendance. This year's event placed a significant focus on green skills, reflecting the growing importance of sustainability in today's job market.

Among the employers present were Notre Dame alumni from Network Rail, KIER, and Kirk Newsholme Accountants, who were there to discuss work experience, apprenticeships, part-time jobs, or graduate roles with current students. These returning alumni, who were once in the same position as the students just a few years ago, shared their experiences since leaving Notre Dame, providing valuable insights into the world of work.

One of the standout employers at the fair was ASDA, a leading supermarket chain with a comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy. ASDA's strategy aims to develop a more efficient and resilient value chain, with a particular emphasis on providing accessible and affordable sustainable shopping solutions.

ASDA's ESG strategy is evident in their approach to careers, with roles in data analytics, supply chain management, and technology potentially contributing to sustainability efforts within the company. For instance, their Data, Insight & Analytics Graduate Programme 2025 involves rotations through Analytics, Data Science, and Data Engineering teams, supporting Asda’s digital and data transformation, which could underpin sustainability goals by optimizing operations, supply chains, and customer behaviours to reduce environmental impact.

While specific green career opportunities may not be explicitly advertised by ASDA as part of their ESG strategy, roles in supply chain management and technology can play a significant part in reducing waste and carbon footprint. Reviews and job listings focus more on general retail, logistics, and customer service positions, but these roles can intersect with ESG priorities, particularly in areas like reducing energy use or optimizing delivery routes.

Network Rail, KIER, and Kirk Newsholme Accountants also showcased green careers they offer, further emphasizing the importance of sustainability in the job market. For those interested in specific green career opportunities, it would be advisable to monitor these employers' official careers pages or corporate sustainability reports for updates directly related to their ESG initiatives.

The Careers Fair provided a valuable opportunity for current students to connect with returning alumni and potential employers, offering a glimpse into the diverse range of careers available and the role sustainability plays in shaping the future of work. More information about ASDA's ESG strategy can be found on their official website.
