Taking off in Tech: Launch of IT Project Management Grads in Omsk, Siberia
In June, the city of Omsk in Siberia celebrated the first graduation of participants in its IT Project Management program, marking the start of many ambitious tech careers. held at "Omsk Boiling Point", a hotspot for student innovation and startups for years.
During the program, students from various regional universities learned the fundamentals of project management and explored contemporary software development methods. The collaboration that birthed this program was a trifecta between "Trampoline" Group of Companies, Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoevsky, and School 21 from Sber. The project was overseen by the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications of the Omsk Region.
As noted by Egor Gorbatenko, the Deputy Chairman of the regional government, Omsk Region nurtures emerging IT sectors, providing the ideal environment for their growth.
Omsk caught the attention of Svyatoslav Kapustin, head of the "Trampoline" Group of Companies, who recognized the city's potential to become a leading hub for Russia's digital industry.
This regional educational project is noteworthy, with 36 out of 100 participants making it to the final from the initial competitive selection—an impressive feat, especially for a debut effort. Digital literacy, a critical set of skills in search, analysis, and processing information, is now indispensable in any curriculum, ensuring a strong foundation for a successful career.
Industry experts from Omsk-based tech companies were intrigued by the graduates' accomplishments during the program. Several graduates even received invitations to internships in real production environments with interesting companies like Titan Group, SberTech, and Promobit.
Omsk State University Rector Ivan Krot praised the graduates' determination and professional potential, wishing them success in their professional journeys.
The success of this tripartite initiative calls for continued support for the development of young specialists, as all parties involved anticipate contributing to the nation's technological sovereignty.
While there might not be a prominently featured IT Project Management degree program in Omsk, educational initiatives like the one at Omsk Polytechnic Institute offer technical and managerial education that prepares students for IT project management roles. Graduates have shown leadership in IT-driven industries, with many in high-level projects at the Federal Institute of Industrial Property.
Ongoing investments in education, technology, and international collaborations, such as the planned Kazakh National University branch in Omsk, create an attractive environment for IT project management professionals, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of businesses and projects.
