New ALMA School Center Opens in Bergisch Gladbach

After months of extensive renovations and rebuilding, the ALMA School Center has officially opened its doors to students and teachers. Located at Von-Behring-Straße, the former building was previously used as a refugee accommodation by Landkreis Grafschaft Bentheim, but has now been transformed into a state-of-the-art educational facility.

The name ALMA is an acronym for Astrid-Lindgren School and Marienschule, the two educational institutions now located at the center. The school principals have decided to name the new complex the "ALMA School Center."

The renovation and remodeling of the building began in January 2018, with Schubau GmbH purchasing the property. The largest item in the renovation was the complete renewal of the building technology, including electronics, heating, and ventilation, for around 1.2 million euros. Approximately 2.15 million euros have been invested in the project so far.

The move to the new school center took place on Thursday, August 9, 2018. The Astrid-Lindgren School and Marienschule students moved into their new classrooms at the former Anne-Frank School in Von-Behring-Straße on that day. The teachers' rooms have been extensively renovated, and each school has eight general classrooms, six group rooms, and three art, workshop, and support rooms.

The new ALMA School Center boasts a modern cafeteria offering around 110 seats. Work will continue at the school center for the next two years, including an energy-efficient renovation of the roof, walls, and windows. The city council has also allocated an additional around 1.5 million euros for further development of the schoolyard and renovation of the sports hall.

The handover ceremony by the general contractor agn rheinmain to the city of Bergisch Gladbach marked the completion of the renovation and rebuilding work. The new ALMA School Center is now a shining example of a successful renovation project, providing a bright and welcoming learning environment for students and teachers alike.
