ICES Class 9 German Curriculum 2025-26: Obtain Syllabus in PDF Format

The ICSE Class 9 German Syllabus for the academic year 2025-26 focuses on developing a solid foundation in the German language by integrating the four essential skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

The syllabus, offered by the world-renowned educational board CISCE, is designed to promote practical language use through a series of internal assessments spread across the year.

Listening

In the Listening Skills assessment, students will listen to a passage of approximately 300 words being read aloud twice at a normal speed. They will then make brief notes and answer objective-type questions based on the passage.

Speaking

The Speaking Skills assessment requires each candidate to make an oral presentation for about two minutes on various topics such as narrating experiences, giving directions, expressing opinions, reporting events, sharing anecdotes, or commenting on current events. This is followed by a three-minute discussion with the examiners on the subject.

Creative Writing

The Creative Writing Skills assessment requires candidates to write short compositions based on suggested assignments related to the language topic.

The internal assessment carries 20 marks in total and includes three assessments throughout the year focusing on these skills.

The syllabus covers a wide range of topics, including vocabulary building in everyday and thematic contexts, grammar and sentence structure fundamentals, comprehension and translation exercises, oral presentations and discussions to improve fluency and confidence, and writing assignments to enhance creative and structured expression.

Additionally, the syllabus aims to develop an interest in the appreciation of German and an intercultural awareness. The Comprehension section tests candidates' understanding of a given unseen passage in German, while the Translation section includes translation from German to English, translation from English to German, and dialogue writing based on everyday life situations.

The Letter section requires candidates to write a formal or informal letter, with the layout of the letter forming part of the assessment. The Annexe covers Communication skills, with Topic A focusing on Myself, Family, and Friends; Topic B on Holiday Time & Travel; and Topic C on Work & Lifestyle.

The ICSE Class 9 German syllabus is a part of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examinations conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). CISCE ensures the delivery of high-quality education to students in both India and abroad, promoting holistic growth in students through a wide range of subjects.
