Hunt for the New Leadership at Syracuse University: Chancellor and President Positions Open
In September 2025, Syracuse University has initiated the search for its 13th president. The search process is being assisted by search firm Spencer Stuart.
The university is seeking an inspiring, innovative, and strategic leader who honours academic excellence, Orange spirit, and inclusivity. This individual will need to position the university for success in a rapidly evolving higher education landscape.
The search committee, co-chaired by Shelly Fisher '80 and Lisa Fontenelli '86, consists of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and trustees. Each member brings an important perspective on the ideal characteristics and qualities for the new chancellor.
The input from the Syracuse University community will help the committee in developing a position profile for the future chancellor. Engagement sessions for the search process can be found on Syracuse University News. An online survey will be forthcoming.
Feedback, suggestions, and nominations can be submitted to [email protected]. The full list of committee members will be announced by September 19, and on this date, the complete list of members of the search committee was published by the Chair of the University Governance Committee.
The Syracuse University community is encouraged to provide input on the search for the new president through engagement sessions, an online survey, and direct feedback to the Chancellor Search inbox. The search committee looks forward to hearing from the community as they embark on this important journey.
