The Center of Science and Industry (COSI) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services recently joined forces to celebrate American innovation through a unique event at the iconic Statue of Liberty. The event, named the American Innovation Learning Lunchbox STEAM Kit Distribution, took place on Liberty Island, where the Statue of Liberty stands as a symbol of freedom, liberty, and innovation for the world.

Recognising the importance of hands-on learning experiences in today's digital age, COSI designed a series of engaging STEAM kits, including water, nature, human body, and dinosaur themed kits. These kits were distributed during the event, aiming to provide experiential learning opportunities for students, especially children.

The event was not the first time COSI had created such kits. During the pandemic, COSI had developed similar kits to keep students engaged in science while their doors were closed.

The students who attended the event were treated to a private tour of the Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island. Dr. Frederic Bertley, COSI's President and CEO, and Stephen White, VP of External Affairs, Strategic Initiatives, and Business Development, conducted science experiments during the event, inspiring the young participants.

Each student received an American Innovation Learning Lunchbox to conduct their own experiments at home. These special-made lunchboxes contained materials for science experiments, reflecting the event's focus on promoting American innovation.

The idea to conduct science experiments at Liberty Island was inspired by the upcoming 250th birthday of the United States of America. The event aimed to celebrate the country's rich history and innovation, potentially inspiring the next generation of influential scientists.

The students at the event showed a real enthusiasm for the science they experienced, demonstrating the power of hands-on learning experiences in igniting a passion for science. With the collaboration between COSI and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, such events continue to play a crucial role in promoting STEAM education and American innovation.
