High Court in Madras Refuses Request for NEET UG 2025 Re-Examination, Citing Minimal Disruptions
In a recent ruling, the Madras High Court has dismissed a plea seeking the re-conduct of the NEET-UG 2025 for students affected by power cuts. The court's decision follows an extensive review of the situation at the affected centres and the performance of the candidates.
The dispute arose after a group of candidates filed an appeal claiming that the power disruption during the examination created unfair conditions. However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) formed an independent expert committee to assess the situation at the affected centres. After a detailed review, the committee found no significant difference in the performance of students affected by the outage compared to others.
One candidate from an affected centre performed exceptionally well, securing the second rank at the all-India level. Other candidates also showed resilience, with one candidate answering 179 out of 180 questions, and others answering more than 140 questions. These results suggest that the performance of the candidates was not hampered by the power outage.
Additional Solicitor General A.R.L. Sundaresan submitted CCTV footage from the affected centres, showing that the examination halls had large glass windows allowing ample natural light. The court's judgment stresses the need to uphold the integrity of educational assessments and maintains that it should not interfere with the well-considered decision of the NTA unless it is proven to be arbitrary or unlawful.
The court's ruling states that it cannot overturn the NTA's decision unless there is evidence of serious flaws or injustice. As a result, the NEET-UG 2025 results will remain unchanged for all candidates, including those who appeared at centres affected by the May 4 rain and power outage.
