Harvard Medical School gains Caroline Morehouse '23 as a committed student

Caroline Morehouse, a graduate of Oberlin College, has chosen to attend Harvard Medical School (HMS) to pursue a career in geriatrics. With a strong background in biology and chemistry, Morehouse knew the medical field was a potential career option.

Throughout her time at Oberlin, Morehouse praises the impact that her professors across a variety of disciplines had on her growth and success. This includes working on a research project in the neuroscience department under the guidance of Associate Professor Christopher Howard.

Morehouse's fascination with the impact of health on everyday life as we age, and her desire to help older adults, led her to form strong relationships with residents at an assisted living facility. This experience further cemented her decision to pursue a career in medicine.

Harvard Medical School offers unique academic opportunities for students studying geriatric medicine. Key academic opportunities include the Multicampus Geriatrics Fellowship, a two-year program providing in-depth clinical training, teaching experience, and research opportunities focused on geriatrics. Another opportunity is the Geriatric Dentistry Program, a distinctive two-year multidisciplinary advanced graduate education program in geriatric dentistry.

HMS also has a strong partnership with Hebrew SeniorLife, the only geriatric care organization affiliated with Harvard Medical School. This partnership enables students and fellows to engage in pioneering aging research, clinical training, and the development of senior care professionals.

Morehouse is considering pursuing geriatrics, and is interested in the field's focus on preventing, delaying, and treating diseases in ways that align with individual patients' goals. She plans to keep an open mind during medical school, exploring different specialties to discover the best fit for her.

Morehouse credits her liberal arts education at Oberlin College for strengthening her application to medical school and shaping the kind of doctor she hopes to become. She also values the unique academic experience offered by Harvard, which led her to choose it over other prestigious medical schools like Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania.
