Government Expresses Advocacy for Male Children

The government is calling on all stakeholders to unite in guiding the future generation of boys to become responsible, productive, and value-driven citizens. This was advocated by Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, during his keynote speech on the International Day of the Boy-Child.

In 2025, the Day was marked with the theme "Nurturing the Boy-Child & Harnessing Mentorship for Leadership and Governance." Our website reports this event took place on a Friday.

Olawande expressed concern over the minimal engagement that many fathers and male role models have in their sons' lives, frequently due to time constraints. He stressed that such detachment can adversely affect the emotional and moral growth of boys.

"Mentorship plays a pivotal role. It offers our boys the needed guidance, counsel, and motivation to grow into firm and competent future leaders.

"Without strong role models, our boys may lack the values and life skills essential for success in society," he asserted.

The Minister underscored the importance of supporting boys as they endeavor to cope with academic pressures, societal expectations, and personal strife through purposeful guidance and nurturing systems.

Committed to President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, Olawande assured that the government is dedicated to establishing platforms that motivate and mentor young boys across the nation.

"The boy-child is integral to our society. It is our responsibility to provide avenues for empowerment, regardless of family history or financial status," he concluded.

Prominent figures in attendance included the Director General of NYSC, Brig.Gen.Olakunle Oluseye, and the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Citizenship and Leadership, Rinsola Abiola.
