German-Uzbek Commission Boosts Ethnic Germans' Future

The 15th session of the German-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission for Ethnic Germans in Uzbekistan took place in Tashkent on June 17. The event, co-chaired by Dr. Bernd Fabritius and Kahraman Sarijew, focused on supporting the over 4,000 Germans living in Uzbekistan and fostering bilateral relations.

Dr. Fabritius emphasized the significance of the intergovernmental commission in maintaining the German population in Uzbekistan. Ruslanbek Dawletov, a key figure, praised the strong trust and cooperation between Germany and Uzbekistan, highlighting the role of the German language in the republic. The session discussed various projects promoting the German community, with a focus on youth work.

Dr. Franka Fuelle detailed the German government's funding for these projects, while Elena Mironova, chairwoman of the German Cultural Center, highlighted the diverse and popular projects in the center's history, especially those involving youth and language development. The German Economic Association (DWV) was recognized for its significant contributions to stabilizing the German population through educational projects and innovative approaches. With 980 schools teaching German to over 3,000 students, Uzbekistan's interest in the language is evident.

The session concluded with the ceremonial signing of a communiqué, outlining joint approaches to promote and develop the ethnic-cultural identity of Germans in Uzbekistan. The event underscored the commitment of both nations to preserving and strengthening the German community in Uzbekistan.
