Five compelling motivations for contributing to our online journal

Princeton University's blog offers a unique opportunity for students to share their personal experiences and potentially help others learn from them. This platform has been a wonderful complement to various pursuits at Princeton for many students.

Andrea Reino, one of the current correspondents, joined the blog because research is a significant part of the Princeton experience, but can be intimidating and confusing. She found the blog to be a space where she could articulate her evolving views on academic, cultural, and social issues, and connect with others through storytelling, thus enhancing her campus involvement and personal growth.

Alec Israeli, another correspondent, joined the blog due to a great experience with the Office of Undergraduate Research's ReMatch+ internship program. He wanted to help support fellow students in their academic pursuits and share his insights.

Raya Ward uses her position on the blog to make the research resources of Princeton well known and accessible to students. She believes that the blog provides a close-knit group of students to learn from who are similarly invested in the research process.

The application process for the 2021-2022 academic year requires a cover letter reflecting on the applicant's research path to date and explaining how they would contribute to the blog, a sample post (between 400-700 words), and a copy of the applicant's resume to be sent to [email protected].

The blog aims to make the research resources of Princeton well known and accessible to students. It offers a space to give a candid, human element to the concept of research at Princeton, aiming to shed light on various research methods.

Writing for the blog has helped students like Nanako Shirai grow as writers, improve their understanding of the writing process, and complement their other jobs, such as writing center fellows. Shanon Fitzgerald appreciates the freedom offered by the blog to cover what's important to them from their own angle, on their own schedule.

Elise Freeman, who joined the blog to give a candid, human element to the concept of research at Princeton, echoes these sentiments. The blog provides a platform for students to cover what's important to them from their own angle, on their own schedule.

In summary, participating as a correspondent for Princeton's university blog offers experiential learning in communication, a platform for sharing personal and intellectual insights, and enhanced connection to the university’s vibrant community discourse. The application deadline for the 2021-2022 academic year is sometime before noon on Wednesday, April 17. Ellie Breitfeld, the Chief Correspondent, encourages anyone and everyone to apply.

[1] While the search results do not quote specific statements from current correspondents directly about the blog benefits, the general context of Princeton’s campus culture values respectful conversation, diverse perspectives, and community engagement, which would logically extend to student roles in university blogs and media. Additionally, student involvement in extracurricular communication platforms such as blogs helps cultivate confidence and balance in managing priorities, as reflected in related Princeton student experiences with athletics and academics.

  1. For Andrea Reino, joining Princeton University's blog not only served to articulate her thoughts on academic, cultural, and social issues but also supported her personal growth and campus involvement through storytelling and connections with others.
  2. Raya Ward, a blog correspondent, utilizes her position to make Princeton's research resources accessible and known to other students, believing that the blog offers a close-knit community where students can learn from each other and contribute to the research process.
