Preschoolers Learn Fire Safety and Emergency Response at Donsbrüggen Fire Station

In a bid to educate young minds about the importance of fire safety and emergency response, the Donsbrüggen fire station in Kleve recently welcomed a group of preschoolers from Kindergarten St. Lambertus.

The visit was designed to be both playful and educational, with the children getting a chance to explore the fire station, its equipment, and fire trucks. This hands-on approach helps familiarise them with the environment and reduces fear in case of an emergency.

Throughout the visit, firefighters demonstrated how they use their gear and tools, showing the children what to expect if firefighters come to help during an emergency. The children also learned basic fire safety tips, such as “stop, drop, and roll,” how to recognise smoke alarms, and the importance of not hiding but getting outside quickly in case of fire.

Emergency response education was also a key part of the visit, with the children taught simple steps on what to do during an emergency, including how and when to call emergency services, and the importance of staying calm and listening to adults.

Interactive activities, such as games, role-playing, and storytelling, were used to reinforce the messages in a fun and memorable way. Some sessions even included the children operating a fire extinguisher under the guidance of firefighters.

The visit provided additional educational experiences for the preschoolers, with the children also learning about the diverse tasks of the emergency services and getting to explore emergency vehicles at the fire station. Firefighters even demonstrated the use of thermal imaging cameras to locate people in emergencies.

At the conclusion of the visit, the children were given the opportunity to color firefighter pictures, encouraging their creativity. The fire station expressed gratitude to the Kindergarten St. Lambertus preschoolers for their visit, and expressed hope that they had sparked an interest in the work of the fire department among the children.

The visit to the Donsbrüggen fire station reinforced the importance of the fire department's diverse tasks and emergency response capabilities. By educating preschoolers early on, the fire station aims to empower them to respond appropriately and stay safe in case of emergencies. This technique can save lives in real emergencies.

During the visit, the children not only explored the fire station and its equipment but also learned about education-and-self-development topics such as fire safety and emergency response. The children were taught basic learning skills like "stop, drop, and roll," recognizing smoke alarms, and the importance of getting outside quickly in case of fire, which would help them prepare for future situations.
