Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Chooses Park University for Training Initiative
In a significant move to equip students for the future, Park University has been chosen by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to be a member of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems - Collegiate Training Initiative (UAS-CTI). This programme requires schools to provide a comprehensive curriculum covering various aspects of UAS training, including hands-on flight practice, maintenance, uses, applications, privacy concerns, safety, and federal policies.
Park University offers an undergraduate certificate in Unmanned Aerial System Drone Application, a programme that, while specific details about the curriculum are not yet available, is likely to include a range of courses based on similar programmes. Some common components might be an Introduction to Unmanned Aerial Systems, Drone Operations and Safety, Aerial Photography and Videography, Geospatial Data Acquisition, UAS Regulations and Compliance, Drone Maintenance and Repair, Practical Applications, and Core courses instructing remote drone pilots in mission-driven and incident-free sorties.
The university's collaboration with the FAA includes a continuous dialogue with stakeholders to connect the University with general industry, local governments, law enforcement, and regional economic development entities to address labor force needs. This collaboration could potentially lead to increased job opportunities and research collaborations in the field of unmanned aircraft systems.
Park University is the first college/university in the State of Missouri to join the UAS-CTI program, a testament to its commitment to innovation and preparation for the rapidly growing field of unmanned aircraft systems. The certificate program at Park University consists of 12 credit hours and prepares students to become FAA-certified small UAS remote drone pilots.
Katie Ervin, Ed.D., is Park's associate vice president of strategic alliances, overseeing the university's involvement in the UAS-CTI program. To qualify for the UAS-CTI initiative, colleges/universities must offer a bachelor's degree, associate degree, or a degree with a minor, concentration, or certificate in UAS.
More information about Park University's undergraduate certificate in Unmanned Aerial System Drone Application can be found on the University's website. The FAA's Part 107 UAS Remote Pilot Certification Exam is the accepted certification for small UAS-drone commercial and municipal operations, and students who complete Park's Commercial Drone Pilot Certification Prep Course (UAS 107) are prepared to sit for this exam. The UAS-CTI program identifies institutions that prepare students for careers in unmanned aircraft systems, often referred to as drones, and highlights the FAA's commitment to fostering education and innovation in this field.
- Park University's undergraduate certificate in Unmanned Aerial System Drone Application, a part of their commitment to the UAS-CTI program, leverages technology to facilitate online education in various aspects of UAS training, including drone operations, regulations, maintenance, and safety.
- In the realm of education-and-self-development, the UAS-CTI program, to which Park University belongs, emphasizes the importance of learning about unmanned aircraft systems, providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to secure job opportunities and contribute to ongoing research and innovation in this fast-growing field.
