Entrepreneurial training program holds Entrepreneurs' Day in Nordhorn
In the heart of North Germany, the city of Nordhorn recently played host to the annual "North Entrepreneur Day" organised by the Training Initiative. Over 35 representatives from member companies across the region gathered at the municipal building yard at Enschedestraße to discuss ways to keep training companies attractive for young gardeners in the face of a skills shortage.
Mayor Thomas Berling, a former apprentice in garden and landscape construction, welcomed the guests, expressing his concern over the decreasing interest in craft professions. He emphasised the city's commitment to high-quality training programs, offering a total of nine different vocational training opportunities.
One of the member companies, Grütters GmbH from Sonsbeck, was in attendance. The company, which recently won the "Taspo Award" in gardening circles, shared its philosophy of serving customers with a team of entrepreneurially thinking and self-responsible employees. Managing Director Josef Grütters highlighted that money is not the best incentive for binding skilled workers. Instead, he emphasised the importance of allowing team members their own competencies, majority decisions, and the opportunity to actively influence the company's success.
Trainer Reinhold Schnieders from the "Green" department of the city of Nordhorn presented the training company to the guests and explained the training concept. Schnieders took many impulses from the Entrepreneur Day to further improve the training program. He underscored the importance of convincing young people on a personal level, emphasising that as a trainer, one must be passionate, dedicated, and never stand still.
The participants were impressed by the city of Nordhorn as an employer and the training concept. They agreed that exchanging ideas and looking for ways to make the gardener's profession more attractive is crucial. The Training Initiative, which has been ensuring quality standards for garden and landscape construction training companies for nearly eight years, encouraged this collaborative approach.
The Training Initiative, with 110 member companies throughout Germany, values training highly. Nordhorn, a member since 2012, is one of its proud supporters. The city's commitment to the Initiative reflects its dedication to the future of the gardening profession and its commitment to fostering a skilled workforce.
