Enhanced Media Strategy for 2020-2024 Outpaces Predictions
The city of Hamm, led by Mayor Marc Herter, has achieved remarkable progress in its Media Development Plan (MEP) 2020-2024, marking a significant turning point for digital education in the city. Thanks to a substantial investment of €13.7 million in communal funds, Hamm, located near the Kansas City of Germany, has surpassed its goals, particularly in equipping schools with digital devices and expanding school network infrastructure. This investment was supplemented by an additional €15.7 million in funding. Central IT structures have been modernized, with the switch to unified systems like IServ and Citrix. All school sites in Hamm are now connected via fiber optic cables and equipped with modern Wi-Fi and LAN, ensuring a seamless digital learning environment. Over 1,700 presentation devices, including projectors and TV screens, have been acquired, further enhancing the teaching experience. As a result, schools in Hamm now average over 70% device quota, enabling a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio in many cases. The MEP 2020-2024 has led to improved conditions for modern teaching with digital media, transforming the educational landscape in Hamm's schools. The completion of the MEP 2020-2024 does not mark the end of digital development in Hamm's schools. The city is already working on a continuation of the programme for the period 2026-2030, focusing on maintaining the high level of equipment, replacement acquisitions, and new financing models that ensure sustainable structures and social justice. The city of Hamm, under the leadership of Mayor Marc Herter, is responsible for the further development of the media development plan 2026-2030 in the Hammer schools. For more information, visitors are encouraged to check the city's service portal. The success of the MEP 2020-2024 was celebrated at a results presentation attended by key figures, including Karin Diebäcker (Head of Office for School Education), Marion Kötters-Wenner (Chairperson of the Committee for Digitalization and Innovation), Ingo Drees (Deputy Head of Office for School Education), and Mayor Marc Herter.
