Durham University's Professors in Practice initiative recently held a celebration focused on sustainability. This programme, active for over six years, connects students with experienced professionals from diverse fields, enriching academic curricula and enhancing career prospects.

The celebration highlighted the initiative's commitment to sustainability and practical conversations. It fostered new connections among Professors in Practice, faculty, and students.

Durham's Professors in Practice include Alderman Professor Emma Edhem for Economics, who also serves as an Alderman in the City of London Corporation. Lucian Hudson, Director of Advancement, Marketing, and Communications, contributes as a Professor in Practice for Leadership and Organisations. Dr. Kevin Lin, Professor of Translation Practice, has significantly impacted the School of Modern Languages since 2019. These professionals, along with others, share their skills, insights, and knowledge through mentoring, guest speaking, and industry insights.

Dr. Joanna Berry, Associate Dean for External Engagement, praised the initiative. She noted that Professors in Practice provide valuable industry insights and support students' career prospects. Each faculty can nominate distinguished professionals, with appointments approved by the Provost. This ensures students engage with experienced professionals from various disciplines and sectors.
