Construction work continues for the fourth consecutive summer on the school classrooms.
The construction of the Siegfried-Marcus School in Malchin, an initiative aimed at improving educational facilities, has faced delays due to funding issues and bureaucratic hurdles.
Currently, the project is grappling with several challenges:
- Financial Constraints: Limited or delayed government funding continues to impact the pace of construction and procurement of materials.
- Supply Chain Issues: Delays in material delivery may affect the construction schedule.
- Administrative Coordination: Communication and coordination among stakeholders need to be streamlined to avoid further bureaucratic delays.
- Labor Shortages: The availability of skilled laborers might impact work efficiency.
These factors collectively contribute to the stoppage and uncertainty around the project's completion timeline. Stakeholders are working diligently to resolve these issues and complete the school construction as soon as possible.
The school's temporary classrooms can be found in the former library, the workshop of the primary school, and a room in the Zachow sports hall. Most students will have to return to the gymnasium for the start of school in September. The city of Malchin has extended the lease agreement with the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district for the use of the gymnasium rooms until October, incurring monthly costs of around 10,000 euros.
Progress at the construction site is slow, with some rooms painted but still lacking drywall work and window sills. Additionally, the emergency exits on the gable sides had to be redesigned, and a dispute with the construction company responsible for scaffolding and facade renovation caused delays.
The renovation and modernization of the Siegfried-Marcus School is the most expensive investment Malchin has made since the fall of the Berlin Wall, costing approximately nine million euros. Initially planned for completion in February 2022, the timeline has been exceeded.
Mayor Axel Müller (CDU) admits that the move might not take place during the autumn holidays, and he is cautious about setting concrete deadlines for the completion of the construction work. The completion of the construction work at the Siegfried-Marcus School in the autumn remains uncertain.
