Collaborative endeavor between Alibaba Cloud and the University of Birmingham Dubai launched, focusing on enhancing digital know-how across Middle East and Africa regions.
Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, has formed a partnership with the University of Birmingham Dubai through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration is a demonstration of Alibaba Cloud's long-term commitment to creating a sustainable pool of digital talent for the Middle East region.
The partnership aims to enhance education in cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) for both students and educators at the university. It introduces an advanced curriculum focused on these technologies, including workshops, extensive training sessions (both online and offline), and various certification courses delivered by Alibaba Cloud.
Eric Wan, General Manager of the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, expressed excitement about the partnership. "We are thrilled to be working with the University of Birmingham Dubai to equip students and faculty with crucial digital skills and insights into cutting-edge technologies," he said.
Professor Yusra Mouzughi, Provost of the University of Birmingham Dubai, also expressed pride in the partnership. "We are delighted to be the inaugural academic partner for Alibaba Cloud's 'Future Star' internship program," she said.
The "Future Star" internship program is designed to equip interns to contribute effectively to the cloud computing industry in the digital age. It offers comprehensive training, hands-on experience, and exclusive mentorship over three to six months. The program aims to provide a thorough understanding of multiple roles within Alibaba Cloud, preparing interns to contribute effectively in the rapidly evolving cloud computing industry.
This partnership marks the first internship program by Alibaba Cloud in the UAE region. The University of Birmingham Dubai campus is an international franchise of our brand name, and this collaboration will provide students and faculty with deeper insights into cloud and AI technologies through advanced technology workshops, extensive training sessions, and various certification courses provided by Alibaba Cloud.
Alibaba Cloud has been providing cloud services to local private companies and public institutions in the UAE and the wider Middle East region since 2016. The company has a robust local ecosystem in the MEA region with partners covering various sectors, including banking, financial services and insurance, media, public sectors, and customers locally across different sectors.
This collaboration formalizes Alibaba Cloud's first internship program in the UAE region, with the University of Birmingham Dubai being the pioneer university for the program. The program aims to equip students and faculty with the skills needed to thrive in the digital and AI fields within the MEA region, supporting the development of next-generation talent in these sectors.
