Clarivate takes action to achieve SDG 4: Offering quality education that is inclusive and equitable for all parties involved.
In September 2023, the Bavarian State Library (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek) introduced a new platform, "LibLists", enabling librarians to mediate their collection curations. This innovative move was not only made by the Bavarian State Library but also by Clarivate and ProQuest, two giants in the library and education sectors.
Clarivate, serving over 26,000 public and academic libraries, has been dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) through innovative solutions in education. The company values DEI and incorporates these resources into its practices, ensuring that over 130 million students benefit from its educational solutions.
ProQuest, on the other hand, has been creating DEI resources and building diverse collections for libraries for decades. Their collections focus on underrepresented regions and communities, including topics like women's equality, incarceration, discrimination, disabilities, racial injustice, and more.
One of ProQuest's latest collections, "Disability in the Modern World", preserves knowledge about the experiences and contributions of people with disabilities in a multimedia format. Similarly, Clarivate added archival material from Humanity and Inclusion, a Nobel Prize-winning organization, to its collections in 2022.
Clarivate and ProQuest's joint initiative, 'LibLists', launched in September 2023, is an innovative platform for librarians to share collection curation expertise. The inaugural LibList, "Inclusivity in Healthcare" by Maria King, addresses diversity in healthcare education and is indispensable for health sciences libraries. King's LibList includes over 50 titles, making it a comprehensive resource for libraries seeking to promote inclusivity in healthcare education.
Clarivate is not only introducing new platforms but also actively implementing processes and technologies to prevent, detect, and mitigate any biases. They prioritize sustainability in their business operations and have been showcasing real-life examples of helping customers, colleagues, and communities in their sustainability report.
Moreover, Clarivate reviews metadata and indexing terms to eliminate potential harm to marginalized communities. Their choice of indexing terms is non-discriminatory and reflects evolving inclusive language.
Clarivate invites everyone to join the conversation at /sustainability-at-clarivate/ as they work towards building a more sustainable company. They are committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of their operations, and their initiatives in library collections and education solutions are a testament to this commitment.
