Citizens of the Sverdlovsk region encouraged to join the contest highlighting outstanding school library management techniques
The Russian Society "Knowledge" and the Ministry of Education are launching two significant competitions aimed at promoting literacy and recognising outstanding contributions by school librarians. The "Best School Librarian in Russia" professional contest and the "Most Reading School in Russia" competition will take place in December this year at the I International Forum of Librarians in Moscow.
School staff from across the country are invited to apply for these competitions, with the deadline for submissions set for October 5, 2025. Contestants will demonstrate their professionalism by conducting extracurricular events and solving modeled situations that showcase their advanced achievements in school libraries. This includes practices from small rural schools to educational institutions in megacities.
Participants in the "Most Read School in Russia" competition will hold live events based on provided materials and present their original practices to an expert council. The competitions are part of the Council on the Implementation of State Policy in the Field of Support for the Russian Language and the Languages of the Peoples of Russia.
Maxim Dreval, General Director of the Russian "Knowledge" Society, emphasised the importance of school libraries in fostering a culture of reading and independent information handling. Elena Yampolskaya, advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, stated that school libraries should become spaces of knowledge and librarians should be authoritative, knowledgeable mentors.
In a related development, the Ural region is competing to host the "Knowledge. First" marathon. The competitions are being organised following the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who underscored the importance of these initiatives in promoting literacy and encouraging reading habits among students.
For precise and up-to-date details about these specific competitions—such as application procedures, judging criteria, deadlines, and prize information—it would be necessary to consult official Russian education ministry websites, cultural organisations involved in literacy promotion, or recent announcements from recognised national educational bodies.
- Engaging in these competitions underlines the importance of education-and-self-development and learning, as school staff are encouraged to showcase their professionalism and advanced achievements in school libraries.
- The "Most Read School in Russia" competition emphasizes the significance of learning and encourages participants to hold live events and present original practices, transforming school libraries into spaces of knowledge and fostering a culture of reading.
