ChulaThaiYO's Lima Performance Strengthens Thai-Peru Ties

Chulalongkorn University's Thai Traditional Youth Orchestra (ChulaThaiYO) successfully concluded a cultural exchange event in Lima, Peru, on September 16-17, 2025. The performances, led by Dr. Sirichaicharn Fachamroon and others, showcased a blend of Thai music and dance, captivating both Thai performers and Peruvian participants.

The event, part of Chulalongkorn University's cultural diplomacy initiatives, saw the delegation led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Vitchatalum Laovanich and Mr. Kunchit Jitratan. Notable guests included Mr. Elmer José Germán Gonzalo Schialer Salcedo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Mr. Pisanu Sobhon, Thai Ambassador to Lima, and Mr. Treethap Noppakhun, Minister Counselor for Culture.

The performances included 'Homrong Maharaj', 'Chao Phraya Suite', traditional Thai string ensemble, and Khon masked dance drama. The event culminated in a joint Ramwong circle dance involving Thai performers and Peruvians. The success of the performance was attributed to the direction of Dr. Fachamroon, Asst. Prof. Dr. Malinee Achayuttakan, Dr. Sakwin Siriwatthanakul, and Mr. Chalermpan Ruwicha.

Chulalongkorn University's cultural exchange in Lima, Peru, strengthened diplomatic ties and fostered friendship between the two nations. The university's commitment to arts and culture as a form of cultural diplomacy, under policies like 'CU Togetherness' and 'Chula Social Engagement for Cultural Sustainability', was evident in the successful presentation of Thai music and dance.
