Charlotte Jean Bailey: A Life of Love, Learning, and Legacy
Charlotte Jean Bailey, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on August 11, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on November 14, 1939, Charlotte dedicated her life to education, family, cultural pride, and varied personal interests, leaving behind a lasting impact on her family and community.
Growing up on a farm near Waukomis, Oklahoma, Charlotte attended Waukomis High School before furthering her education at Northwestern State College. She later earned her teaching degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma. Charlotte spent several years in education, influencing many of her children to continue the path of teaching.
Charlotte married Charles T. Bailey in 1959, and they resided in Wyoming, including Ranchester and Sheridan. Together, they raised five children, whom Charlotte considered her greatest calling. Charlotte was the heart of her family, providing love, strength, and comfort. Her cooking brought her family together in a special way, and her meals were a manifestation of love.
Charlotte's interests were wide and diverse. An avid reader, her broad knowledge enriched her life and the lives of those around her. She enjoyed gardening, particularly flowers and vegetables, and was passionate about genealogy. Other hobbies included dancing, horseback riding, watercolor painting after retirement, water exercise, and bowling. She also had a strong love of animals, especially cats, and was connected to animal rescue efforts.
Charlotte was proud of her heritage and was granted membership as a Northern Cheyenne in 2010, maintaining close contact with relatives and friends she reconnected with. She is survived by her husband Charles Bailey, her five children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Martin Luther Grammar School at 1300 West 5th Street, Sheridan, Wy 82801. A Celebration of Life for Charlotte will be held on August 23, 2025, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Parish Hall. Inurnment will take place after the reception in the Juniper Heights Section of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
Charlotte's legacy reflects a life devoted to education, family, cultural pride, and varied personal interests. Kindness defined Charlotte, as she gave of herself endlessly without asking for anything in return. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, family traditions, and countless memories.
