Heidenoldendorf Primary School Achieves Fairtrade Certification
Heidenoldendorf Primary School in Detmold has made a significant stride in promoting sustainable practices and global responsibility, becoming the only comprehensive public school in the city to bear the Fairtrade certification.

Teacher Franziska Altmann, who initiated and led the project, emphasised that Fairtrade means responsibility for a fairer world, sustainable action, and conscious consumption. The school community as a whole made continuous efforts to achieve this certification, with various initiatives such as a clothing swap event focusing on environmental protection and social responsibility, and the "Fairtrade Football Cup" promoting fair trade and sportsmanship.
At an award ceremony in Detmold, the Fairtrade certification was presented by Fairtrade Germany. Headteacher Katrin Freitag thanked everyone involved, including students, staff, the Fairtrade Detmold steering group, representatives of the city portal, and Michael Duchting of Fairtrade Schools Germany and Mayor Wolfgang Schriegel.
The success serves as motivation to strengthen awareness of global interconnections among young people. The school's goal is to continue to firmly anchor sustainability in daily school life, setting a strong example of global responsibility and solidarity in education.
