Student Realizes Childhood Dream at New York Fashion Week

Sania Musti, a fashion and textile management student with a concentration in brand management and marketing, has expressed her sincere gratitude to a generous donor who made her enrichment experience at New York Fashion Week possible.

Musti, a recipient of the Centennial Scholarship from the North Carolina Textile Foundation, used her enrichment funds to help organize a luxury show during the prestigious event. Her week-long internship with Communa-K, a New York City-based casting and production company, allowed her to gain exclusive backstage access, assist with fittings, work with models, and help coordinate a fashion show.

During her time at New York Fashion Week, Musti helped check models in, organize composite cards, and assist with other casting needs. She was able to contribute to the Son Jung Wan show and help with the process that brought the pieces to the runway. The most meaningful part of her enrichment experience, Musti says, was watching the Son Jung Wan show on the last day.

The Centennial Scholarship Program, offered by the North Carolina Textile Foundation, provides up to $22,000 in scholarship funding each year. In addition to the scholarship, the program offers an additional $7,500 in enrichment funding, which Musti used to make her Fashion Week dreams a reality.

Musti's internships, though not usually paid, made a significant financial impact. The enrichment grants allowed her to participate in valuable international experiences, internships, or research opportunities that not only improved her academic outcomes but also increased her marketability to future employers by broadening her understanding of global markets and textile technologies.

The Wilson College of Textiles, supported by the Foundation and its scholarships, is uniquely dedicated to textiles education. This dedication helps graduates become sought-after professionals in the global textile industry.

Reflecting on her experience, Musti says her childhood self, who used to put on her own runway shows, would be proud. She is optimistic that this won't be her last New York Fashion Week. Musti thanks her donor, Mr. Butts, for helping her achieve her childhood dream.
