"Bremen-Nord Welcomes New Educational Institution: Welcome School"
In the heart of Bremen, a new Welcome School has opened its doors, marking the fourth such institution in the city. The Helsinki School, located in the districts of Vegesack, Blumenthal, and Burglesum north of the Lesum, welcomed its initial 40 students yesterday, May 16th.
The school, currently being housed in mobile buildings on the grounds of the secondary school at Helsinki Street, caters to refugee children and youth hailing from Ukraine, Greece, Turkey, Syria, and various African countries. Senator Sascha Karolin Aulepp, who attended the opening ceremony, expressed his enthusiasm about the new beginning for the students, stating, 'That's work, that's duty, but you could feel: That's news too!'
The Senator further mentioned the school's team's high motivation and commitment to supporting the students up to graduation. He also highlighted plans for the school to create further access to the German language through innovative methods such as music and theater.
Project-based learning of the German language forms a significant part of the school's curriculum. Additionally, the school offers individual schooling and support in a separate differentiation room to ensure each student receives the attention they need.
Starting from the new school year, mobile buildings on the centrally located grounds of the Baumwollkämmerei will be available for the Helsinki School, providing ample space for the school's growth. As per Senator Aulepp, the school can accommodate up to 100 students.
The Helsinki School is not the first Welcome School in Bremen North. The third Welcome School was opened on May 16th, although the name of the person who officially opened it remains unclear.
