Australia's Women in Security Network Kicks Off Cyber Response Competition
The second Australian Women in Security Network Response Competition has launched, aiming to promote diversity and skill development in cybersecurity. Co-Founder and COO of Retrospect Labs, Ryan Janosevic, expressed enthusiasm in hosting the competition, which is backed by Cydarm and sponsored by the Australian Signals Directorate and the Commonwealth Bank.
The week-long, national incident-style response exercise runs from November 7 to 14, involving 250 women in cyber incident response roles. Teams of five, each with diverse knowledge and expertise, will compete using Retrospect Labs' Gauntlet platform and Cydarm's case management platform. They will tackle tasks such as analyzing forensic artefacts, identifying Indicators of Compromise (IoCs), and managing media and legal aspects of incidents. The competition is evaluated by a panel including Shanna Daly, Kevin O'Sullivan, Christine Eikenhout, and Karen Croughan.
Jill Taylor, Head of Marketing at Cydarm, emphasized the competition's objective to address the shortage of cybersecurity professionals in Australia.
The winning team will be announced during a virtual closing ceremony on November 29, marking the end of this year's competition. Retrospect Labs and Cydarm, along with the event sponsors, look forward to celebrating the participants' accomplishments and contributing to the growth of women in cybersecurity.
