Administrative vacancies found in three school oversight committees

In a significant move to strengthen the governance of education settings in Guernsey, several key appointments have been made to various school committees.

Yvonne Hodder, with her extensive experience in education as a civil servant and as chair of Le Rondin's parent association, will oversee Le Rondin, Le Voies, and Le Murier schools. Yvonne's duties will extend to St Anne's school, as announced separately.

Ian Carter, a seasoned education professional with a background as a headteacher over a British Grammar School and an independent school inspector, will be responsible for St Anne's school and St Mary & St Michael and Notre Dame du Rosaire catholic primary schools.

Anna Rivers, with her executive financial services experience and representing the Chamber of Commerce, will chair the board for The Guernsey Institute. Jon Buckland, who has served as a Chief Officer for States departments, including the former Education Department, will chair the cluster that includes Amherst, Vauvert, and Herm schools.

However, there are still unfilled roles, including the "clusters" overseeing north and west primary schools, south and west primary schools, and the three secondary schools and sixth form center. A recruitment drive has been launched for these positions, with applications re-opening on 22 September and closing on 1 October.

Deputy Paul Montague, President of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture, emphasized the importance of strong governance for the flourishing of education settings, stating, "The designate chairs will drive improvements in schools, sit on interview panels for principals and headteachers, and lead on challenging senior leadership."

Elizabeth Dene, appointed by the Bishop of Portsmouth, will head up St Mary & St Michael and Notre Dame du Rosaire catholic primary schools. The specific individuals who will take over the three still open positions in the committees for the North and West elementary schools, the South and West elementary schools, the three secondary schools, and the sixth year center after the second recruitment wave are not disclosed in the available information.
